Nerd Wars Round 1 Recap

Yeah, it’s really called that. So here be the gauntlet of things finished this month as competitive knitting awesomeness:     These projects were all double-dipped between my separate games.  I finished all the ready rooms for BSGFPB (a couple twice!), and all but one challenge for Nerd Wars. In true me fashion, I have let this anomaly of preparedness and work ethic completely overcome me, and I have therefore.. Read More

Spring is here.

No matter what the silly temperature gauge says, and I know this because of asparagus. That’s right.  Asparagus season is upon us, and this early harbinger of fresh green things is probably one of my favorite vegetables, despite the rather potent effect it has on the kidneys.  My favorite is asparagus sautéed with a little butter and dressed with a scraping of salty-sweet parmesan cheese, but sometimes one must branch.. Erratic is my middle name!

Not really.  But I have been maintaining a post-a-week trend, just on very different days.  That’s good, right? I’ve also had a lot of coffee this morning and/or my listless sleep last night is infecting my thought processes.  I’ve got ideas jumping like jackrabbits.  I had to just stop writing this post because I had to send Lis an email right! this! second! Anywhoodle, I’ve finished some stuff in the.. Read More

Today’s lunch brought to you by Huggies™

When you cook split peas in the crockpot, they turn to liquefied mush. When they’re green mush with threads of cooked ham and chunks of tomato and potato, they look like… Well, I’m sure you can extrapolate the appearance of my split-pea soup based on my clever post title.  But it sure is tasty, despite all outward appearances.

In February, I battle.

As those of you who have met me in real life or been following this blog for some time might recall, I’m a huge nerd. One of the many facets of my nerdliness is a deep and abiding love for the television show Battlestar Galactica.  I have exponentially increased the nerd factor of my love for this show by combining it with competitive knitting. You heard me. There is a.. Read More

Crap. Now I really want to knit Alot.

No, that isn’t poor grammar.  It’s this (link).  Which I enjoyed in a purely appreciative, fellow grammar-fascist sort of way. Until this (another link).  Now I just want to squeeze it. And since she’s not selling, I need to get my fix some other way. Bulky brown alpaca handspun?  Check.  Yarn that looks like fur? Maybe check. Felt and fabric bits to use as trimmings? Check. All-consuming obsessive desire to.. Read More

Sewing. We meet again.

Emily from over here at The Family Trunk Project (link) is ruining my life. I too would like to make sweet, fluttery spring dresses perfect for eating ice cream on the Pont Neuf with a handsome gentleman with rolled-up shirtsleeves and a wicked smile.  And while I have the gentleman (who has the shirtsleeves and the smile), ice cream is readily available, and could even obtain the passage to Paris with.. Beef and barley soup

Awhile ago, our friends Corey and Rose gave us a pretty hefty bag of stew beef that they couldn’t use.  They’d bought a share of a grass-fed cow that had recently been butchered, and they were awash in meat.  Which sounds a little odd now that I’ve typed it out. The first two outings of this beef were in iterations of the Persian dish gormeh sabzi, which is a delicious,.. Read More

Chicken Noodle Soup

I spent a little time with the Ji last night after quite a hiatus, and (as usual), her mom had left instructions on what should be used up for dinner. Now usually Ellen just leaves me a list of the raw ingredients and leaves me to my own devices when it comes to their combination and service thereof.  Occasionally she will request a certain dish, but there’s still usually a.. Ploppers!

More snow. But hey, the city did get the whole cleanup thing together in much shorter order this time around.  So much so that all the Twitter and Facebook comments of my fellow denizens regarding Snowpocalypse 2011 skew in the “well, the sequel isn’t as great as the first one” direction. Whatever.  Snow pretty!  Until it’s run over by lots and lots of trucks and toileted upon by lots and.. Read More
