Notes From Neptune

I write about people, places, and things.

Tempus fugit, for serious.

I didn’t take Latin, but that’s one of the handful of things I keep in the ole brain-bank in order to sound acceptably pretentious. I was all geared up last week to get back into the swing of blogging on the regular and whatnot, and then… My life got eaten by Project Runway. My job has a little deal with HP computers that when they have high-profile product placement stuffs.. Read More

Remember when I used to blog with pictures?

That was fun. I should do that again. As a show of good faith, I present the Nerd Wars/BSGFPB June Roundup!   Whew. That was a heck of a month. From left to right, top to bottom: a crocheted bamboo potholder, June Socks for Mr. Boyfriend, a knitted denim skirt I’ve had stashed/queued for literally ever, a little crocheted cap to donate along with the boughten goods to a kid-friendly.. Forward motion

So after the cry-baggy post previous, I would like to present… this. Forward motion is inexorable, and one can either follow along behind it or lead the way. For the moment, I’m doing more of a hand-in-in hand sort of thing. Whenever I feel stunted, I like to organize things. Mr. Boyfriend can attest to my recent re-dedication to housekeeping. I’ve been full of busywork lately, from finally rolling over.. Read More

I didn’t get it.

For those of you who are a little more connected to my day-to-day, you might remember that way back in December I applied for a spot in this year’s DGA Assistant Director Training Program. An Assistant Director is to a film set what a stage manager is to a theatrical production: the person who runs things, keeps everything working smoothly and on time, and basically keeps the whole world from.. Finished: May socks

Just a short little post for some nice tall socks. These are the May socks from the Self-Imposed Sock Club 2011.  I started them on May 12. I finished them on May 31. WE’RE BACK ON TRACK, PEOPLE! WOO! Sorry about that. Other than a minor gaffe at the outset where I failed to read the pattern and knit the ribbing wrong, these were a breeze.  I love the sort-of-linen-stitch-but-not-quite.. Finished: April Socks

I almost made it. These were finished on May 2, but I’ve been beyond lazy and/or distracted about photographing them, and on deciding what I was going to do with them. But that will follow. I planned these socks without really paying attention to the fact that the yarn, Brooklyn Handspun’s yummy Superwash Sock, is in fact more of a sportweight yarn than a fingering weight. This presents a slight.. Read More

Stuff and nonsense

Random life updates: I’m plugging away at the May Socks. One sock, a cuff, and some leg down, the rest of the second to go. Loving the yarn and pattern so far though. Huzzah! I’m hoping I can spend some quality time with the lace stole I started in April for NW/BSGFPB and get it finished so I have a nice clean slate for the start of the new games.. Read More

Finished: Coraline

So. Almost a month after the self-imposed deadline for Nerd Wars and BSGFPB, I present a finished sweater.  It’s Coraline (link), by Ysolda Teague, in Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool (link). It fits me perfectly. I love the color. I’m glad I was able to use some reclaimed buttons. It’s sort of itchy. That’s the basic summary. In construction news, I knit the 34″ size, since after blocking my swatch grew.. Read More

Revelation

I recently got a new backpack. My old one was starting to wear thin on its bottom, and was generally too capacious for the amount of stuff I need on a daily basis. I was ready for a change. So I did my research, compared my options, and took the plunge. I got my new bag, and to my dismay, began suffering a sore back and shoulders fraught with tension… Read More

Vent d’est cowl

Finished, at long long last. I started this cowl with an entirely different yarn back in November, and after setting the project aside for a bit, misplaced it so catastrophically that I have not yet found it. Which sucks, since I also lost a perfectly good Addi lace needle, my favorite project bag, and a handful of really great Bryspun stitch markers. Growl. Not to mention the 500 yards of.. Read More
