So after the cry-baggy post previous, I would like to present… this. Forward motion is inexorable, and one can either follow along behind it or lead the way. For the moment, I’m doing more of a hand-in-in hand sort of thing.

Whenever I feel stunted, I like to organize things. Mr. Boyfriend can attest to my recent re-dedication to housekeeping. I’ve been full of busywork lately, from finally rolling over my 401(k) to setting up a weekly schedule for certain chores and cleaning. Lots and lots of organization. I believe the thought process is that if all the little menial mundane bits of my life are in order, they provide the perfect springboard for taking on the bigger, more complicated and messy bits. Let’s hope I’m right.

Speaking of schedules, knitting for my gauntlet of nerdery is progressing very much on time. The BoySocks for June are about 3/4 done, and I hope to have them finished by the end of the week. I’ve ripped the yarn I want to crochet into a fun slouchy hat, and I’m about 12″ in on my knitted denim skirt. That last in particular is very happy-making, since I’ve had that yarn and pattern in my to-do queue for about four years. I’ve also set up an appointment with a local charity here in NYC that distributes baby and children’s things to underprivileged families to tie in with this month’s Giving Geeks challenge, and I’m collecting items from my other team members to drop off as well. The yarn I ordered to make Heather’s wedding stole has arrived, but I think I’ll save that project for next month’s round of challenges. The only thing truly hanging over my head in the knitting sense is the three-month project I signed up for. I haven’t cast on yet and I’ve got a lot of work to do if I want to get to the 1/3 mark by the end of the month.

But luckily, I’ll have a lot of time to knit next week, since Galactic Girl will be on hiatus. Our third show is tonight at 7 pm, and then we have a week’s break until our pickup rehearsal and then the final show on June 30. In between I’ll be trying to see some of the other shows, but there will still be a lot of free time to sit on the couch and knit furiously. I’ve really enjoyed working on this show. It’s been such a blast. I’m sorry it’s almost done!

Other random bits:

  • I need to fix my bike. The back wheel still isn’t trued up properly from when I changed my tube, and it makes the tire rub against either the frame or the brakes, neither of which are good or conducive to easy riding.
  • I love the cooler snap we’ve had this week. I’m crossing my fingers for another summer like 2009.
  • Guacamole is basically the greatest thing ever.
  • I need to commit to Game of Thrones. I’ve been reading it for entirely too long, and I hate letting books languish. A rule: at least one chapter a night, no matter what.
  • Another rule: no Twitter/Facebook once I’m home for the night. Not including weekends. I sit in front of a computer all day. When I get home, it’s time to unplug.
  • I’ve been reading a lot of Little House in the Suburbs (link) lately, and it’s making me want a garden hardcore. Also kind of making me want to be a stay-at-home mom. Can I be a SAHM for a cat? Does that count?
  • Cat is still a jerk, but that brings us to rule the third: get up when the cat makes me (because she’s crying for breakfast/companionship, generally it’s always earlier than what I set my alarm for). I will get more done.

That’s all the random my brain can spew today, folks. Look for some pretty pictures of finished knits this weekend!
