That was fun. I should do that again. As a show of good faith, I present the Nerd Wars/BSGFPB June Roundup!

Whew. That was a heck of a month. From left to right, top to bottom: a crocheted bamboo potholder, June Socks for Mr. Boyfriend, a knitted denim skirt I’ve had stashed/queued for literally ever, a little crocheted cap to donate along with the boughten goods to a kid-friendly charity, a crochet puff-stitch beanie that’s delightfully retro, and a simple little bookmark.

So I finished all six Nerd Wars challenges, and three of the four BSG missions, though in truth the fourth was presented as an “optional” mission to learn a special skill. Since that skill was dyeing with natural colorants, and I have little to no room in the house for dyeing stuffs, it didn’t seem like a mission I’d be into. So in my mind, I finished them all! 🙂 I might go back to BSG today and post some of the stuff I did for NW in one of the missions, since they technically fit and I want my team to rock!

The only thing I let slide a bit this month was my three month project, the Akoya sweater. I wanted to finish the sleeves and the bottom hem, but I sadly only cast on sleeve #1 last night. As of this posting, here’s what I got:

I am but a mere 1/3 of a sleeve. But I rock.

Despite the fact that I’m knitting light fingering weight yarn on US 4 needles, this thing is pretty speedy so far. I’m aiming to get my June goal accomplished by the end of next week, and then I’ll power through the monthly challenges in the middle (yipes!) before picking Akoya back up in the last ten days or so to meet my next goal, which is body knit to the armholes and sleeves joined up. The color in the above photo is decidedly inaccurate. The actual yarn is a much more pastel-y aqua.

In my regular challenges, I was most thrilled with the socks and skirt. My bobbley crochet hat also turned out great, so I’ll probably be churning more of those out as gifts for the vintage-loving ladies of my acquaintance. The socks were a big hit, and I think the Sock Candy yarn from Blue Moon is a clear winner in the Mr. Boyfriend-Can’t-Wear-Wool-Socks-So-Now-What? Contest. It’s stretchy enough to make a snug sock, and comfy enough to wear all day. Tina, get ready for a big order! The skirt has literally been sitting in my stash since 2007 when the pattern came out and I grabbed the yarn off eBay. It’s just been hovering in my queue, never quite a priority. So with a BSG challenge targeted specifically on long-time stash, it’s day of reckoning finally came.

So yeah. That’s things. On a site-related note, I don’t know why things are automatically directing to a mobile platform. It’s weird. I’ll try and figure out what’s up with that. In the meantime, you can click the header ‘A Domestic Manifest’ and it will take you here i.e. the real thing.

And since I may not see you till after, Happy Independence Day, America!
