Notes From Neptune

I write about people, places, and things.

#MMMay… and so it begins.

There’s a thing makers on the internet do when May rolls around. They wear garments that they’ve made themselves and take photos to post on social media every day of the month to celebrate their craft. I’ve tried on occasion to participate, but I’ve decided to jump in with both feet this year: I will post a photo a day on Instagram wearing at least one item of me-made clothing… Read More

Desert Swing Tank

Yeah, it’s wrinkly. But that’s because I’ve been wearing the crap out of this thing since I finally hemmed it a couple weeks ago. Once upon a time, I started getting boxes from Stitch Fix. They’re usually well-curated, and it’s a lot of fun to open a parcel full of things you will very likely love. But on occasion (two, so far), one of the things I love is just.. Read More

WAS2016 Project #2: The Far Rockaway Shell

Last summer, I made myself a sweet little tank shell from Shibui Fibers Twig yarn, a wool/silk/linen blend that feels cool and papery. I love that tank. I’d been looking for a good second Twig project for awhile when the Rockaway Beach Shell crossed my radar, and I decided it would make a great addition to my Spring/Summer Wardrobe Architect pile. So right. I love this yarn, and this top.. Read More

Finished Object: Mysa

Add another thing to the list that I’ve learned thanks to Brooklyn General: Pom Pom Quarterly. These lovely ladies put together a charming magazine every quarter, with some lovely patterns. This is my first go with one, a lovely, striped tunic by Norah Gaughan. I even worked it up in the recommended yarns, since we just happened to carry them at the store. I didn’t make any changes aside from knitting.. Read More

Travels With Myself and Veronica

Whew! It’s been a busy couple months around here, what with the Husband-Dude injuring both his hands in a motorcycle accident, heading to New Mexico to make a movie, and starting New Awesome Job in earnest. Not to mention jaunts to the beach, the botanical garden, and exploring NYC’s forgotten borough, Staten Island. Things have been so busy, in fact, that I’m going to skip right over all of that and.. Finished Object: Mississippi Avenue

For those of you following along at home, I landed myself a part-time job. Both the up-and downside of this job? It’s a yarn and fabric store staffed by the loveliest and sweetest bunch of enablers you ever met. 🙂 To wit, I present the Mississippi Avenue blouse (view A of the pattern): I had this pretty gray and floral print fabric earmarked for Colette’s Hawthorn (again, the blouse view),.. Finished Object: The Violet Blouse

Yup. I still make stuff. I finished this adorable little blouse yesterday evening. The pattern is Violet, from the inimitable Colette Patterns, with floral cotton voile from Elliott Berman Textiles (I love this shop so, so very much) and some plain black shirting from Gorgeous Fabrics (another favorite, recommended by Gertie). I completed version 2 with elbow-length sleeves gathered with elastic in a bias-tape channel. I decided to go with.. Read More

Finished Object: Tulip Blouse

Fair warning: I am insanely proud of this project. It may not look like much, but this little blouse is the product of my very. first. drafted. pattern. It all started with a Stitchfix box. I signed up for Stitchfix after a friend recommended it on Facebook. It’s a pretty neat service, actually, especially for people like me who loathe shopping with the fire of a thousand suns. You sign.. Read More
