Notes From Neptune

I write about people, places, and things.

Aimee, Aimee, Aimee.

As the title would suggest, this post is being written entirely for her benefit… Oh, Aimee. You are finally finished. With the exception of the ribbon for the bottom and the tag, of course. Am I the only person who absolutely hates finishing sweaters? The seaming of the lace parts of this sweater nearly did me in, I confess. And the weaving in of ends would have driven me round.. How I Spent My Summer Vacation

So I have, as you might have noticed, taken a rather extended break from the blog, and at a time when there was so much drama happening in my knitting life (Ravelypmics! The Peacock! Baby Shower Presents!). But, as I was spending all that time NOT at home, blogging would have been a pretty incredible feat. I barely managed to keep up my reading, let alone posting. And how did.. Reality check

So, it has come to this: I made myself sit down last night, and take a long, hard look at my Peacock and my knitting ability. With more than 100 rows to go (and each row, now, taking me at least 15 minutes to work), there is literally no logistical way that I will finish this shawl before August 8. It would take Herculean effort to finish it by the.. Read More

Well well.

It looks as though my little experiment has worked! When I had reached the usual sock-stopping place on my first Spring Forward, I noticed that there was a considerable amount of yarn left. Ordinarily, this is no big deal… except this time I had divided the skein in half while winding it out. So, with such a surplus on my hands, I decided to try and go for a knee.. Read More

Things finished, things begun

So since last writing, I have a new FO: The Buffalo BoySocks, in all their massive glory. In accordance with the rules of the universe, I have not seen the recipient of Socks in ages, so they have not been gifted yet, nor have they even been tried on for size. I am sincerely hoping that when the Day of Reckoning arrives, they will be a perfect fit and I.. Read More

Sweet Baby James

Oh MAN. That was an awesome show. The photo above is my merch score, a nice T-shirt to replace (or augment, whichever) my old ratty one from the “Never Die Young” tour in 1988. I stole it from my grandma, and it’s developing holes in all sorts of interesting places. This one is nice and tough. I think it can take the wear, even if it’s another 20 years before.. Read More

To frog, or not to frog…

That is the question. Apologies in advance. This entry will probably remain entirely picture-less, since I’m writing while at work and have no access to a) the items under discussion, and b) all the various computery things that I need to in order to make pictures happen. Sigh. **EDIT** I couldn’t bear it. Photos below. So I had finished knitting all the various pieces of my second Cotton Camisole (by.. Read More

FO: The Miss-Matched Socks

All done! The Specs: Pattern: none, really. Just a 2×2 rib with a flap heel and round toe. Yarn: Koigu KPM in green and purple, 1 skein each. Notions: 2 #1 Addi Turbo circs. Modifications: I did a pseudo-slip stitch heel, slipping every other stitch of every other knit row. They turned out pretty nice. I took a lot of care to weave in the ends, leaving little bits out.. Lace Lust

Despite the rather alarming number of Works in Progress I’ve got on the needles at the moment (five at last count, after tossing one that has been dozing since last October), I find myself obsessed with starting a lace project. I attribute this desire to the time of year. Warm floaty breezes are really only meant to send a shiver of movement through a delicate lace shawl, after all, and.. Read More

More socks.

So I finished mom’s socks, and got them out only a week after actual Mother’s Day… and did send them along with her Christmas socks. So hopefully the weather will comply, and continue in this wonderfully cool pattern it’s developed lately, and allow her a little more time to wear her woollies before she has to fold them away til fall. So I finished the Banana’s socks, and promptly went.. Read More
