Whew.  It became May.  Don’t know if you guys were aware of that.

So I have not written much of late, mainly because I’ve taken work on a new show and therefore my evenings and a big chunk of my weekends are being spent in rehearsal for Galactic Girl in: Attack of the Starbarians! It’s a fun show with fun people, and I’m really enjoying getting to do some theater again.

I’ve also been fighting a real slump in my knitting mojo.  As the weather warms, it gets harder and harder to bring myself to confront piles of woolly goodness. And although I know this, am currently confronting it almost every time I pull out my yarnz, all the things I want to work on right now are sweaters.  Big, woolly, cold-weather sweaters. I’m bonkers.  So the inertia I’m fighting is twofold: I partly don’t want to knit at all, because I’d rather be frolicking through the tulips (or, if truth be told, sleeping); and I partly don’t want to knit because I keep forcing myself to knit the things I’ve already got on the needles. I am a cranky child, after all. I want to be given my own way.

But all this parentlike perseverance has paid off, at least a little.  I cast off the little lacy cowl today. You know, the one I started back in November.  AND LOST. Well, I caved in and bought a new needle and new yarn for it last month, and I just finished it off today.  It’s had its ends woven in, and now it just needs a good blocking before it’s ready to go.

Not that I’ll be able to wear it, though. It’s finally turned proper spring in the city, and I celebrated by letting Mr. Boyfriend take my bike in for a tune-up.  I’ve started riding it to rehearsals, since getting from Park Slope to Bushwick in a timely fashion is nigh-impossible by public transit. I’m excited to start clocking some serious road time.

Let’s see, what else?

  • I made a pineapple upside-down cake from my Nanny Jo’s recipe. It was divine.
  • Nerd Wars and the BSGFPB are both on a month-long hiatus, during which they are hosting a book club for A Game of Thrones and a cardigan sweater KAL, respectively.
  • I am participating in both these things.  I’m trying to finish my Coraline for the KAL, and I’m up to chapter 6-ish in GoT. So far, it’s awesome.
  • On a book note, I’m on a slight library hiatus until I can work my way through some of the many books I’ve borrowed from friends and need, for etiquette’s sake, to return. So perhaps by the time I’m done, my hold on the next $#%@ing Nancy Drew book I need to read will have come through.
  • I swapped out yarn and pattern for the May installment of the Self-Imposed Sock Club. So many people were having gauge issues with it on Ravelry, and I didn’t feel like knitting a freak sock this month and getting discouraged, especially since it’s almost half-over and I haven’t even cast on yet.
  • Instead, I’m going to knit this pattern (link) with this yarn (link). And now that I finished the lacy cowl, I need some good take-along knitting.
  • April socks did get finished, but I panicked about the amount of yarn I had and cut them short (something like ladies’ 6.5-7), so I’m going to send them to one of my grandmothers as a very late Mothers’ Day gift.
  • Annie’s has closed Sundays for their summer hiatus, so I’m no longer surrounded by yarn one day a week. You would think this would be good for my bank account. If I hadn’t bought two sweaters’ and a scarf’s worth of yarn on my last day, I’d agree.

So that’s about it for the moment.  I will try to be more diligent about updates as things happen. I tend to forget so much in the middle if I go too long without posting. Sigh.

In any case, enjoy the spring!
