And no, I am not listening to Everclear. I am simply commenting on my recent return from vacation and to the normal humdrum: work, housework, &c…

So far, things have been pretty good. Money is tight at the moment, which has made for all sorts of ingenuity in the kitchen (I can make really good dhal when I try, you know that?), not to mention lots of industrious emailing and active work-seeking. I get to go back to Annie’s after a summerlong hiatus, about which I am tremendously excited. I’m also spending today, a day off, in trying to get The Other Site up and running.

In other news, the new-old-free bike has hit the pavement and is going strong. We had a real time putting them back together, but with lots of assistance from the Brothers Lister and the wonderful staff of the bike shop on Fulton and Marcus Garvey (can’t remember what it’s called), they’re road-worthy again. And since we’re dog-sitting now for a friend who lives just far enough away for the walk to be a chore, it’s a real help. Today, I’m planning a ride by the library, said dog’s house, and the grocery. Love bicycle. 😀

The weather has cooled off a bit. I hope I’m not cursing it by saying that.

I’ve gotten very good at making pâté brisée. On a related note, I think I’ve almost got the perfect galette recipe ready for sale.

On the knitting front, I finished the lace shawl I was working on, and it is certainly a big one. It’s not as large as the Peacock, but close. And since I finished it in less than two years, I consider it a triumph. I’ve also cast on a pair of socks for my honey, and a new fall cardigan for me. All I need to finish Banana’s sweater is some sewing up. I think I have finally admitted defeat on the sweater I was making for Nanny Jo. Despite my best efforts, the yarn continues to break down with every single stitch. I’m afraid it’s just unsalvageable. I will have to find a good substitute and start over. I hope they make Kid Silk Haze in an awesome flamingo pink.

Now it’s off to chase away cloudy days with dogwalking, books, and industry. Happy Thursday!
