So here it is. This project is sort of an anomaly, in that a lot of things turned out not as I expected, but that I’m still pretty enamored with the final product.

Firstly, I wasn’t expecting the yarn to be so light in color. When I was ordering the Nyame, it looked like this (link). But apparently the Marine Silk yarn takes color in a wildly different way from wool, and I instead got the palest ghost of an aqua. Not what I expected/wanted, but still so lovely.

Secondly, I have decided that I don’t personally care for garter-background lace. I academically like the idea that the piece I’ve created is reversible, but I don’t like knitting it and I don’t really like the effect it has on the pattern. That said, it’s still so lovely.

Thirdly, beads are a pain in the butt. To wit:

So many teeny tiny beads

But lovely. See where I’m going with this?

And lastly, I am dissatisfied with the size. I was hoping for something more shawl-like, but I ended up with more of a largish scarf. Granted, it’s my own fault. I went down two needle sizes, and my suspended bind-off was still far too tight to allow for a lot of lengthwise stretch during blocking. It will serve, however, and maybe its smaller size will render it more versatile and wearable for the bride-to-be. And still, in spite of this,

So lovely.

The sheen of the silk is just gorgeous. And it’s so soft. It’s almost ghostly. Kind of angelic.

In spite of all those things, I really like it. I only hope Heather will, too.

I decided to knit a lacy something for my friend Heather for her wedding. So here it is.
